In a multi-phase project, 70,000 square feet of former industrial space is being transformed into a new artists’ community near Union Square. Additions include new entries, signage and a rooftop “bridge” connecting building areas. Glass and steel add a contemporary counterpoint to the restored old masonry walls, and provide an urban scale identity for the complex. Studios are bright and open, with upgraded building systems.
