[ THE CHALLENGE ] Connect and integrate a 700 unit neighborhood apartment complex with the greater community through a new 60 unit mixed use building with frontage on a major avenue. Integrate significant site grades, complex pedestrian and vehicular requirements and an elevated indoor bridge for residents to enhance the lives of all residents.

[ THE RESPONSE ] Interlocking building masses with terraced roofs step down the hillside and complement neighborhood scale and patterns. Public passageways, community spaces and shared living rooms are articulated on the facade to create connections to the surrounding community. A lineal sequence of new circulation and gathering spaces are threaded back into the existing development. A reorganized landscape provides a rich pedestrian environment while accommodating resident drop-off, parking and building services.
