[ THE CHALLENGE ]  Improve outdated building systems to meet contemporary standards, repair failing roof and facade construction, and renew the appearance of this prominent Commonwealth Avenue structure that sits within the extended Boston University campus.

[ THE RESPONSE ]  New HVAC systems required careful coordination with the building’s concrete structure, interior build-out, updating of the elevator and roof replacement. Building envelope improvements include the replacement of entrances and windows, the addition of exterior insulation and metal paneling on the two side and back facades in a contemporary color scheme, and the restoration of the public street façade in more traditional scheme. Together the facades reinforce and celebrate the urban conditions of the alleyways and of the wide thoroughfare the building helps define.
