[ THE CHALLENGE ] Open up an awkwardly organized house built in the 1970’s so that it engages its hillside site. Connect three floors of living space together while providing a range of more private family spaces.
[ THE RESPONSE ] A three story space carved into the heart of the house allows a new stair to rise upward, following the slope of the site. Living areas open up off of it, with bedrooms behind a tall wood paneled wall. The sheen of stainless steel railings plays off of the warmth of wood and stone, lit my skylights above.
