Michael O’Connor

Designer

Michael joined the team at Abacus in June of 2025 after completing his Master of Architecture at Wentworth Institute of Technology, where he also earned his Bachelor of Science in Architecture with a concentration in urbanism. His graduate studies focused on public space design and urban planning, producing a thesis examining civic institutions and protest-driven urbanism in Los Angeles.

Michael is especially interested in civic and community-serving architecture, the role of public process in shaping the built environment, and the integration of landscape, planning, and architecture to address complex urban challenges. Prior to joining Abacus, he worked on historic preservation and higher education projects in Cambridge, contributed to planning at the campus scale at Harvard, and gained hands-on experience in construction.

Outside of work Michael enjoys cycling around Greater Boston, and spending time in the city’s parks.
