[ THE CHALLENGE ] Replace a failing 108 unit public housing development with new multi-family construction. Meet contemporary design, construction and sustainability standards and reconnect to the surrounding neighborhood.
[ THE RESPONSE ] Community spaces line Rindge Avenue to reinforce its arterial character with 3 stories of flats above. A new street extends the neighborhood grid back into the 3 acre site, and is flanked by landscaped courtyards. The surrounding housing consists of townhouses stacked over flats giving every unit its own entry and exterior space. Rain screen cladding, rain gardens, photovoltaic panels, and high efficiency systems will meet LEED standards.
